Brisbane Floods

This is the road into Kenmore (our local town). At the height of the Brisbane floods.
Here's the same spot after the water subsided.

  2. Hi David,

Wow. You wouldn't think it was the same place. I saw a few photos from people when the floods were on. Because I work for a Brisbane company and they were all posting them on the forum. But seeing the difference really drives home how flooded places were.

  3. Hi Damo,

Yes. The house we were living in is at the top of the Pinjarra Hills, about 40m up.

All around us were 2km-long lakes about 5m+ deep, so we couldn't go anywhere for 4 days.

All of that water is from local rain and flash-flooding.

  4. Hi Liz,

Yes. Putting the two photos together does show you how bad it is. You can't see them very well, but there's the Brookfield garden centre on the left with only the top of its roof showing, and on the right a Stihl Mower Centre with only it's roof showing.

  6. Damo,

Touche. I love a 30+ degree day with 98% humidity a few days after a major flood.

This would be the most bizarre natural disaster I've ever lived through. Okay, it's my first and only.

    But it's all quite surreal.

I've never seen a real disaster-zone that wasn't on TV. It's so different in real life.

If this is the devastation a flood can bring, I hope I never live through a war.
